What is the Best Animation For My Business?!

By Matt Weston

“Animation” is a broad term that can suit businesses differently, dependent on what they are trying to do. Whether you’re looking to explain complex ideas, bring ideas to life, or simply stand out from the crowd, video animation can provide a range of possibilities for your company.

What are video animations?

Video animations are creations designed via the process of movement between a series of stills, frames or shots to create a motion picture. Businesses may turn to this technique if they want an eye-catching video for a campaign, or if they would simply rather not work with actors or rely on travel!

What types of animation are there?

There are a number of different types out there, but we’re going to focus on the three that we think are the most influential…

2d Animation

This type of video animation allows businesses to explain complex details thoroughly, with the help of really simple, flat graphics. 2d animation is often frame by frame drawing – so for every second there are 25 drawings. Phew!

Puppet animation is a form of 2d animation which involves performing characters in real time, rather than animating every single frame.

Finally, “tweening” (short for in-betweening) is the process of generating intermediate frames between two images to give the appearance that the first image evolves smoothly into the second image.

3D animation

With 3D animations, you can really let your imagination run wild!

Working wonders for the likes of technological sectors in carefully constructed demonstration videos, 3D can take any product and delve into its components without the need for boring jargon or miles of content.

3D is a great technique to show how products work – you can create exploded views and put products in environments without the set-up required of video production (such as sets, actors and crew).

Motion graphics

This type of production, often used to provoke thought with lots of vital information, is another integral part of animation.

Perhaps you’re after a video for your trade show stall, want some short and snappy videos for your social media channels, or looking to present infographics in a better way than a still image or reams of data.

If so, motion graphics could be for you! With the use of kinetic typography (that’s moving text, between me and you!) and a voice-over, you can take your video to the next level with text that moves and flows in a way to stimulate the viewer’s senses.

So, what IS the best animation for your business?

In short, if you’re looking to explain a product or concept thoroughly, we’d suggest 2D animation for the best results. For powerful product demonstration videos try 3D, and for infographic-style videos which require a lot of information packed in, well, motion graphics work wonders.

Now, if only we knew a company which can conjure up all these animations who we could recommend to you…
