Actors in the video vs Employees in the video

Whether you need a cutaway for a case study or you’re looking for more of a narrative driven video, you may want to have people starring in your video – this could be actors or employees (or both!). This blog is going to look at the two and see which one is going to be best for your video.

Actors in your corporate video

Actors will give you a better performance than your employees would and you’re going to have to book them in advance. This will guarantee that this filming is going to happen rather than being put off because Sandra in accounts has some important book keeping to do. On top of that, you’re not going to be wasting any of your employees time. On the other hand, you are going to have to counter that within your budget because actors are going to cost money. Actors will do it better and quicker.

Employees in your business video

So why would you want to use employees within your video? Well, maybe you have a smaller budget and this can be a great option and they can be really, really effective because it can come across as more genuine. However, there are some negatives to using employees within your video. You’re going to have to pull them out of work so obviously that’s going to affect your working schedule but also it depends on what you want them to do within the shot. If you’re asking them to act and say things to camera or walk, this could take a lot more time. Whereas if you had an actor, this could be done a lot more efficiently.

Generally, we would suggest not using employees within your videos, unless it’s for a minor role or maybe they’re being used within an interview. If you’re looking for something to be acted out, maybe you’ve written a script, then we suggest using actors because that’s where their skills will lie. Of course, there are pros and cons to using either actors or employees but you need to look back at your original video and what’s the aim of the video? What’s the tone? And what’s best to suit you and your audience. Employees can make great extras or fantastic interviewees but more often than not, they’re poor actors.
