Stone's Throw Media Strengthens Team with Marketing Lead

Leading video and animation company Stone’s Throw Media has enhanced its team with the appointment of a Digital Marketing Lead.

Ed Potts has come on board at the digital agency, which works with leading brands from its base at Wolverhampton Science Park, to raise its profile as the business grows in 2021 and beyond.

Formerly Marketing and Communications Officer at Tettenhall College in Wolverhampton, in his new role with Stone’s Throw Ed will grow the agency’s reputation while building upon his experience delivering campaigns for the leading independent school.

In keeping with the Stone’s Throw ethos, his new job title will be Digital Marketing Specialist, capturing the company’s independent spirit for doing things differently. With a degree in digital marketing from the University of Birmingham City University, Ed was in his previous role for 3 and a quarter years.

In his new position, Ed will grow the company’s digital reputation and be responsible for delivering marketing campaigns to reach senior managers and directors looking to deliver creative and video content which delights audiences. With the business already represented on the city council’s economic growth board and Creative Scale Up, a programme run by the West Midlands Combined Authority, Ed will also be building on this progress to further strengthen its partnerships.

Launched in 2011, Stone’s Throw employs eight staff and works with clients including Redrow, Wolves, JLR, the University of Wolverhampton and accommodation provider Student Roost.

Ed Potts said: “I am excited to join Stone’s Throw as Marketing Lead as they continue to grow, helping clients to succeed in meeting their business objectives. With strong connections to the area, I knew the positive impact the team had made in Wolverhampton and the West Midlands and look forward to helping them build upon their successes to date.”

Co-founder and director Matt Weston welcomed Ed to the business. He said: “We are delighted Ed has joined us as we continue to progress as a business which helps clients share their messages in engaging and creative ways. Having a member of the team who really understands the region and is passionate about improving it as well makes Ed a great fit. We are sure he will be a success as we grow in the future.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has led to many businesses moving to digital marketing and events solutions, which positions Stone’s Throw Media as a leading provider to be in a strong position to offer expertise in these difficult times, with the added experience of Ed on board.”

Fellow co-founder and director Mike Chinn added: “We are proud to be part of Wolverhampton’s business community so it was important we brought in someone with roots in the area who recognises the opportunities around us.”

During the Covid-19 lockdown Stone’s Throw pivoted to deliver digital events amid social distancing restrictions, including the online opening ceremony for the £45m state of the art University of Wolverhampton campus at the renovated Springfield Brewery last October, as well as an interactive virtual version of the University’s annual staff awards.

In the Government standard industrial classification of economic activities (SIC) ratings, Stone’s Throw sit in the top five per cent for video production and animation services in the West Midlands. Of the 710 companies registered under the 59 SIC Code, Stone’s Throw is one of 35 with five or more employees. They were also Micro Business of the Year at the 2018 Express & Star Business Awards.
