Drone flying in FIRST PERSON - Behind the Scenes with Stones Throw Media

Drone flying has come a long way in recent years and compared to our very first drone (see below for both a massive drone and massive hair). Fast forward 11 years and today, Mike & Rick are learning to fly a DJI FPV Drone. SO, what’s the difference with a FPV drone?

The difference between a regular drone and a FPV drone is the way you control it and the movement style of the drone itself. With a regular drone you just need a controller and a monitor (which is usually attached the controller). However with a FPV drone instead of a monitor you wear VR Googles as your monitor. This enables you to get the best view of where the drone is.

The way the drones fly is also very different. A regular drone will fly like a tank; steady, left to right, up and down. An FPV drone flies more like an airplane, leading with its nose, it will twist and turn, tilt and dodge. The VR googles and the size of the drone allow for the drone pilot to fly through much tighter space than you could with a regular drone.

The reason why we love drone flying the FPV drone (not just because its a new toy) is because it offers something new in a space which people have seen many times. Aerial footage is always fun to look at but offering a customer a view and a flight that can’t be done with a regular drone, gives them and us something new to use when making great videos.
