Welcome to this edition of the #STMBlog, where we’ll be walking/talking you through how to make a YouTube playlist.
‘You’re so kind’, ‘thank you so much’ we hear you shout, but it’s absolutely our pleasure. YouTube playlists are something we deal with daily and knowledge not shared is knowledge wasted.
If you plan on having a bank of video content, or already have a catalogue of videos, a YouTube playlist allows you to categorise them all for ease of reference. People can sit on the playlist and watch all of your videos without lifting a finger.
Without further ado, let’s get into it.
YouTube Studio
The first step is to go onto YouTube, while logged in to your company account.
From there, go into YouTube Studio in the top right-hand corner of your channel. There you’ll be able to see ‘New Playlist’ in the top right hand corner again. Surprisingly enough, click that.
You can name your YouTube playlist whatever you want, but we’d recommend something that’s relevant, intriguing and understandable to everyone. Imagine someone who had no prior understanding of your business before landing on your YouTube channel; would they be likely to click on something called ‘gr8 vidz abt us lol x’?
After naming it, you can choose whether it’s public, private or unlisted. There are distinct differences between them all that it’s important to establish.
Public – If you want everyone to see your video or YouTube Playlist, and you don’t mind it coming up in Google search results, public is the way to go.
Private – Private is the most secure type of video or playlist on YouTube. Private videos are only visible to up to 50 people that you have invited to watch it. They don’t appear in recommendations, searches or anything like that.
Unlisted – Unlisted videos and playlists are a bit of a cross between private and public. Unlisted videos are invisible in search results, subscriber feeds, suggestions etc., but with unlisted videos, anyone with the link can see and share your video.
After you’ve chosen your privacy settings, click create!
Adding Videos
After you’ve created your YouTube playlist, the easiest way to add videos is to go back to your channel and click on your video page. Find the video you want and click on it.
From there, click the little ‘plus save’ button next to share at the bottom of your video.
A list will pop up and you can select the relevant playlist.
You’ll know it’s been added because it’ll say so in the left-hand corner.
Playlists
Playlists themselves are essentially an organised folder of the videos you choose to be in there.
People have the option to loop a playlist, shuffle the videos or treat it like a normal music playlist on your phone.
But, when you click on a playlist to play it, on the right hand side of the page you’ll see all the playlist content and the options for playing the videos.
Essentially, playlists are very easy for people to use and we recommend using them.
Hopefully this has been a helpful guide on how to make a YouTube playlist. If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to ask, and we’ll be able to help you.
