Stone’s Throw Media were firmly in the picture when they were showcased in a webinar for West Midlands creative companies who have completed a programme to deliver growth.
Founder Matt Weston took part in the “virtual showcase” for the second cohort of businesses from across the region to take part in the West Midlands Creative Scale Up programme, which aims to support future success.
Operated by the West Midlands Combined Authority, the scheme was set up to help creative companies in the region with targeted support including access to finance, marketing, value and pricing, legal issues, intellectual property and sales support.
Matt, who launched Stone’s Throw Media with fellow director Mike Chinn, told the live audience about the benefits of getting legal training through the course. He explained that the Scale Up programme had seemed vital as it began around the time of the national Covid-19 lockdown.
Matt said: “The course helped us go from finding the legal jargon difficult to a place where people like me could understand the relevance.
“It happened at the perfect time because we were working with one of our customers to plan an animated series to go out around the world.
“The Creative Scale Up legal learning helped us to nail down contracts and other ways it could be beneficial to us in the longer term. The legal advice created opportunities which are scary in a good way. It’s been eye opening for us.”
The Creative Scale Up Programme is a £1.3m two-year programme funded by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. The programme is delivered through a series of workshops, seminars and peer-based mentoring sessions.
The webinar session took place on Thursday September 17. You can watch the YouTube video here:
