Regular readers of our blog may be surprised to hear this, but here at Stone’s Throw Media we’re not ALL about making fantastic video productions and animations for our clients.
In fact, we can be a very charitable bunch at times, which is why on Saturday 7th October 2017 three members of the STM team (Matt, Mike, and Patrick) put their “best feet forward” and did some “steppin’ out”* for a charity walk organised by The Haven Wolverhampton in partnership with Wolves Community Trust.
Based in the city’s centre, The Haven Wolverhampton was formed in 1973 to support women and dependent children who are vulnerable to domestic violence, homelessness, and abuse.
It’s one of the largest refuge providers in the UK, and believes in a future where all women and children can live in a society free from oppression, homelessness, violence and abuse – a vision we here at Stone’s Throw wholeheartedly share.
After its successful first instalment in 2016 we were thrilled to see that The Haven were running their “One Million Steps” charity walk again in 2017 – so much so that we decided it was time to dig out our walking boots and join them ourselves.
After a good breakfast** and a warm-up routine led by Wolves mascot Wolfie, the walk got underway – a 5k leg stretcher that started and finished at Molineux Stadium, taking in West Park and Wolverhampton city centre along the way.
The event had Signal 107’s Dickie Dodd, balloons, a marching band, and plenty of walkers in high spirits – what more could you ask for from a Saturday morning?!
Thankfully all three members of the team managed to complete the course, adding their steps numbers to The Haven’s cumulative target of reaching 1,000,000 steps in October – Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
For loads more on the walk, we heartily recommend visiting The Haven’s Facebook page which has information, pictures, and videos of the walk.
We’ll leave the final word for now to our Matt, who had this to say about the event:
“We were delighted to join up with The Haven and Wolves Community Trust for the charity walk, and I think I can speak for all three of us when I say that we had a fantastic time.”
“Our thanks to The Haven for their fantastic organisation – and the giftbags! – and we can’t wait for next year’s instalment!”
We’re not sure we could have said it better ourselves!
