Our Brief
BCU were looking for an explainer animation that collated statistics from their Create programme that was coming to a close, timing perfectly with this explainer animation being released. It was primarily for dissemination purposes, to help support the finalising of the project to satisfy funders, as well as providing a closer insight for the public.
It would be shared to support the project's completion to satisfy funders, primarily for dissemination purposes and to provide the public with a better understanding.
Our job was to create a two minute long video to present these statistics in a fun, colourful and celebratory way to show what the Create programme had achieved!
Explainer Animation
When making an explainer animation that includes statistics, it's important to always think about how to make the video fun and engaging for a large audience. What could be added without affecting the video’s content, or the company’s image to make it more memorable for viewers to engage with the content?
BCU kicked this project off by initially providing an infographic poster for the team to use as inspiration to create the script and the explainer animation as a whole.
It was then sent over to be reviewed and made amendments where necessary, such as adding more conversational flare, not only to make the script read nicer, but to add more of a relaxed approach to quite a statically heavy video.
BCU are a very human centred organisation, so they requested for quite a natural sounding flow to the dialogue, maintaining a sense of passion and dedication throughout. When sourcing the voice over, we kept this in mind, taking into account a friendly narrative style that still conveyed an aspect of professionalism that BCU wanted.
Since it was sent to staff and students who had put in so much effort, it was seen as praise and congratulations for the program's success, so it was appropriate to use an upbeat and optimistic voice. An explainer animation is a great way to deepen visual understanding and communication, especially when dealing with possibly a wide range of demographics, while simultaneously conveying the information in a clear and entertaining manner and this animation is a great example of that!
Jamie, who worked on the explainer animation, said:
It was great to work with BCU once more to help bring an infographic poster to life in video form. There was strong collaboration with the customer in how to use their own provided graphics but mixed in with our own to capture the message. It was simple but the colours really help it pop!
