To give businesses a much needed boost in the wake of the pandemic, South Staffs Council wanted a video production that would promote high streets in the South Staffordshire area.
The video would hopefully encourage local residents to return to high street shopping and potentially discover new shops that they weren’t previously aware of.
Included in the video production would be the high streets of Brewood, Penkridge, Codsall, Wombourne, Great Wyrley, Cheslyn Hay and Kinver.
(Jerusalem plays) The archetypal British high street; where would we be without it? The local butchers, some market stalls, maybe even a sandwich shop if you’re lucky.
BUT. A little known virus threatened the future of the high street, with people unable to shop in-store.
Now that restrictions are lifted and people are able to return to the high street, the council wanted to show off the shopping facilities available.
It is important to support independent shops and traders at the moment, so the initiative was launched as part of a partnership between the council and virtualhighstreet.co.uk. Traders were also encouraged to register on the website to help promote their own business.
The process began with the council liaising with us to create a list of areas they wanted to include in the video.
The length of the list meant that the filming needed to be across two days.
A feature that needed to be included in the video was drone footage, to introduce each area that was filmed. This meant we had to do our good weather dance and hope for no heavy wind or rain, but we turned out to be a lucky bunch!
We were also tasked with getting shots of the walking routes and canals around South Staffordshire to encourage people to get out and about, so there were some lovely views on the filming days!
Across the two days, a variety of cutaways needed to be shot around 7 different towns. This meant that we had to note key features to include to save time and be as efficient with the filming process as possible.
Social media edits were included as part of the video production so the initiative could be launched across the council’s digital channels and be more easily shareable in a shorter form. To make the video more accessible to a wider audience, a version with subtitles was also created.
The videos were used on the South Staffs Council website and their social media channels.
Tom, our head of video production, said
“The South Staffs Council video production project was challenging but great to work on! There was lots of driving involved going between each town and getting the drone shots was dependent on the weather but it was nice to visit picturesque places locally as part of a work day!”
