As we’re sure you’re aware, there are a few things in life that don’t really need saying.
One of these things is this (and yes, we know we’re completely contradicting the previous sentence by stating it, but it’s our blog, shut up):
“Google is a pretty big deal nowadays.”
We’re not going to bore you with stats, percentages, or graphs. We know, you know, everyone knows that Google is now an absolute beast.
For “da yoof” however, Google is now a fundamental part of online life – boasting such features as Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Google Maps, Google Play, ownership of YouTube…you get the idea.
For businesses, however, there’s one facet of Google which we think is, even in 2018, still flying a little under the radar, and it’s called Google My Business.
We could write a whole blog post about Google My Business, but, for the sake of brevity, it is (according to the company itself), “a free and easy-to-use tool for businesses and organisations to manage their online presence across Google, including Search and Maps.”
There’s a whole heap of stuff you can do with the tool, but, surprise surprise, in this blog we want to talk about video.
Yep, as well as still images, you can upload videos onto your Google My Business listing – and we think it’s a really good idea to do so!
So, how do you do it?
1) Once you’ve set up your Google My Business listing, head to your dashboard and click Photos in the left hand side menu
2) Now click on Video in the menu at the top of the page (which will be above your uploaded images if you already have some)
3) Click the + in the blue circle in the top right
4) Click the blue button right in the middle of the screen to upload your video file (which must be 100MB or smaller)
Why should you do it?
Well obviously we’re never going to say “no” to more video content, but other than us being biased there are reasons why having a video or two on your Google listing is a great idea.
Firstly, it’s a really great way for a prospective customer of yours to A) Find and B) Watch your company’s videos (if you have some – and you should!).
If you’re proud of your work, why wouldn’t you want to flaunt it?
Secondly, video captures attention. If someone has landed on your Google My Business listing, there’s a good chance they’ve searched for you (or a relevant keyword) and want to find out more about you.
It’s easy to scroll past a picture, but a video does wonders at grabbing people by the scruff of their necks and getting them invested.
Your video on your listing should be company relevant, but you do have a certain amount of freedom with it so have a think which effort of yours would really entice prospective customers.
Finally, Google really appreciates those companies who use their services to the max!
It’s believed that Google My Business listings which are bulging with images, posts, ratings etc. rank better than those which are untouched and looking bare – and videos are a great way to flesh out your listing and boost your SEO prospects in the process!
So there’s our verdict on videos on your Google My Business listing – in short, they’re worth doing, so get uploading!
