Our Brief

Pigtek's task was to develop a 3D animation illustrating how pipeline pigs navigate through a pipeline system. This device boasts the ability to bend and manoeuvre around corners, making it particularly well-suited for intricate pipeline systems.

Pigtek stands at the forefront of providing specialised pigging products and pipeline pigging services to the international oil and gas pipeline industry.

By the way, if your asking yourself, WTF is a pig Pipeline Launcher? Don't worry; we were too. Turns out, a pig launcher is not a device to launch pigs into space (disappointing, we know). Instead, it's a contraption that uses a pressurised container to shoot a cleaning device (the pig) through the pipeline. No, Peppa hasn't taken up plumbing in the North Sea; she's safe and sound.

Pigtek 3d Animation

Pigtek faced a unique challenge—most of their product operates incognito within concealed pipes. Flat 2D graphics would not effectively convey the intricate 3D pipeline structure of the pig. It became evident that a 3D animation would offer the optimal solution to this problem.

Our main goal? To make sure our star, the pig, didn't get lost in the pipeline limelight. We crafted scenes showcasing the pig's entrance into the pipeline, its graceful moves through twists and turns, and its ability to fit into different pipe sizes.

Multiple iterations of the animation were explored to ensure the pig appeared true to life, as misrepresenting the product was to be avoided. Given the technical nature of 3D projects, close collaboration with the customer was paramount to ensure alignment. Additionally, with the time-intensive nature of 3D production, regular checkpoints were implemented to maintain progress efficiency.

The video's overarching narrative introduces the pipe and its function, guiding viewers from the beginning of the journey to its conclusion at an offshore oil terminal.

Working in 3D is always a blast, but orchestrating a pig through a complex pipe was a new one for me. The Pigtek team made it a joy, and now I'm a certified expert in piggy physics—who knew?
