To host a live stream that celebrates the 12 year partnership between the University of Wolverhampton and British Judo. As the university officially opens their new facilities at the Judo Centre at Walsall Campus, they want to wish the athletes (some of which are students) well for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The University of Wolverhampton has a longstanding partnership with British Judo, with the team using the University Centre of Excellence as a training base.
The University of Wolverhampton is a leading modern university with a tradition of providing opportunity and academic excellence dating back nearly 190 years. The British Judo Association (BJA) is the National Governing Body for the Olympic Sport of Judo in Great Britain.
The live stream that the University wanted would show the new facilities at the Walsall Campus, the opening of the extension of the Centre of Excellence, wish the team good luck and hear from their families.
A little known pandemic meant that the event could not be hosted on site, so we set up live streaming equipment at the Judo Centre, as well as pre-recording certain elements of the stream.
There had been a similar event held at the University five years previously, which everyone wanted to replicate for the Tokyo send off, but COVID huffed and puffed until it got its way.
The partnership between the two bodies is mutually beneficial, so the live stream would work the same way. For the University, showing off their new and existing facilities is an attractive proposition for potential students. Competitors in Judo may see these visuals and have a new aspiration and become motivated by how seriously Judo is being taken in Britain.
Without staying in the public eye, there’s always a chance that you could miss out on the next Chelsie Giles (very relevant name).
Sections of the live stream included members of the Judo team being interviewed, as well as some GoPro footage of the team giving us a tour of the new facilities.
Tom, our head of video, said
“It was great to support the university with live streaming an event, especially with one like the Judo team going away to Tokyo for the Olympics. We have had a great relationship with the Uni over the years and it was great to continue it with opening the Judo centre. We had invested in live streaming equipment during the pandemic, so it was satisfying using it again”
